At a university in California, Zoe McConnell (Olivia Wilde) and her partner and collaborator Frank Walton (Mark Duplass) are conducting a resurrection project. Under the record of newcomer Eva's camera, they and team members Clay and Nick are about to reach a milestone in their project. After much hardship, their experiment finally succeeds, and a dog that had long been dead is successfully resurrected.
