A man wearing sunglasses, who calls himself Porter (played by Kevin Spacey), suddenly appears at the Central Park station in New York. He claims to be from the star K-PAX, located 1,000 light-years from Earth near the constellation Lyra, and has arrived on Earth at superluminal speed for research. Porter is admitted as a psychiatric patient at a Manhattan hospital, where he is treated by Dr. Mark Powell (played by Jeff Bridges). Mark believes Porter is a delusional patient, yet he is increasingly persuaded by Porter's bizarre behavior and incredible astronomical knowledge. Meanwhile, Porter's arrival creates a sensation among other patients in the hospital, all hoping to be chosen to return to K-PAX with him. Dr. Mark desperately seeks to uncover Porter's true identity but finds himself increasingly convinced by Porter's theories in the process. What is Porter's true identity? This film received a nomination for Best Actor from the American Association of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films (Kevin Spacey).
