"Amazon's Tears" is a large-scale documentary produced by South Korea's MBC television station to celebrate its 49th anniversary. The production team risked their lives to venture deep into the Amazon jungle to film, witnessing and experiencing the unfamiliar local civilizations and the increasing destruction of the rainforest ecosystem caused by human greed. The film cost 1.5 billion Korean won and took 250 days to shoot, with popular actor Kim Nam-gil, known for "Queen Seondeok," serving as the narrator. Upon airing, it received high praise and was hailed as the most successful television documentary in Korean history. The television version of "Amazon's Tears" was divided into three episodes, and an 85-minute film version was later edited for theatrical release.
