In 1983, a dense haze hung over North Yorkshire, England, lingering for a long time. On this day, a little girl with an angelic face went missing, awakening a nearly forgotten nightmare from nearly a decade ago. In 1974, a girl named Claire Kemplay disappeared and was ultimately murdered. Soon after, a pale-faced boy named Mike confessed to the crime. Everything seemed to be over, but the occurrence of a similar case made people realize the abnormalities of that long-standing cold case. On one hand, lawyer John Pigott (played by Mark Addy) represents Mike and prepares to appeal; on the other hand, officer Maurice (played by David Morrissey) reexamines the old case. They face an unfathomable darkness that feels like an eternal night…This film is adapted from David Peace's four suspense novels (named after the years: 1974, 1977, 1980, 1983, collectively known as the Red Riding Quartet) and has been filmed as a trilogy by Channel 4 in the UK, referred to as the "Red Riding Trilogy."
