In 1645, the Qing army had already occupied half of the Ming Dynasty's territory, and the Southern Ming's Longwu Emperor retreated to Fujian. At that time, Taiwan was occupied by the Dutch, and facing national difficulties, the emperor (played by Xu Min) summoned Zheng Sen (played by Zhao Wenzhuo), bestowing him the name "Chenggong" and appointing him as the commander of the Imperial Guards. Due to his father Zheng Zhilong's (played by Du Zhiguo) disagreement with the emperor regarding resisting the Qing and restoring the Ming, the Longwu Emperor appointed Zheng Chenggong as the Grand General to quell the rebellion and sent him to the borders to investigate military conditions. Several years later, under Dutch rule, the people of Taiwan were suffering, with many discontented citizens fleeing to Zheng Chenggong's side. He decided to reclaim Taiwan. In late spring of 1661, Zheng Chenggong led 200 warships to attack Taiwan.
