Adapted from a long poem by Hungarian patriotic poet Sándor Petőfi. The story narrates the romance between young John and the girl Iluska, whose relationship is hindered by the girl’s stepmother. John is forced to leave his hometown and embarks on a long journey. After enduring a series of hardships, John, through his kindness, bravery, and wisdom, gains the help of giants and is finally reunited with his beloved girl.
