"The Adderall Diaries" is adapted from Stephen Elliott's memoir, with Franco portraying the writer who documents the trial process of a murder case: the infamous 2007 case involving programmer Hans Reiser, a developer of the ReiserFS file system under the Linux operating system, who was accused of murdering his wife. During the hearing, Reiser's friend and former lover of his wife, Sean Sturgeon, admitted to having killed eight people, but none of them were Reiser's wife. This intricate murder case recalls the film "The Shawshank Redemption."
