The story takes place during the Wude era of Emperor Gaozu of Tang and is adapted from the famous historical event known as the Xuanwu Gate Incident. The main storyline follows the chivalrous hero Li Yufeng, who seeks to help Li Shimin clear his name from wrongful accusations. He stakes his life on a seven-day deadline to track down the true killer who attempted to assassinate Li Yuan and frame Li Shimin. Unexpectedly, he discovers a conspiracy involving the Dark Iron Demon wanting to assist Li Jiancheng in killing Li Shimin, as well as evidence of Li Yuanji colluding with northern forces to rebel and seize power. Most of Li Shimin's advisors are also framed and imprisoned by Li Yuanji, causing chaos in Chang'an. Realizing that he is being forced to retreat and losing everything, without any affection from his father and being plotted against by his brothers, Li Shimin can no longer endure.
