Adapted from Jane Austen's novel of the same name. Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) comes from a small landowning family and has four sisters. Her mother, Mrs. Bennet, is constantly concerned about finding suitable husbands for her daughters. The arrival of their new neighbor, Mr. Bingley, and his friend, Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), disrupts the family's monotonous country life. Bingley and Elizabeth's sister, Jane Bennet, develop feelings for each other; while Darcy becomes attracted to the kind and intelligent Elizabeth, she harbors a prejudice against his haughty pride and rejects his affections. However, as events unfold unexpectedly, the relationship between Bingley and Jane is put in jeopardy due to misunderstandings; Darcy's actions reveal a kind side to his character that gradually wins over Elizabeth. Will the two couples find happiness together? Will the Bennet sisters attain the lives they desire? The early 19th-century English country life and social landscape penned by Jane Austen is vividly portrayed on the big screen.
