In the later period of British rule in India, Shahid Khan, under the legendary figure of Sultan Naeem Khan, robs British trains and is expelled from Wasseypur. Shahid Khan flees to Dhanbad, working for coal mine owner Ramadhav Singh, which leads to a family feud. Ten years later, Shahid Khan's womanizing son, Sardar Khan, vows to avenge his father and becomes a local lord in Wasseypur. Sardar Khan strategizes against his father’s enemy Ramadhav Singh in Dhanbad while opposing the previous ruler Sultan Wang and the Qureshi clan in Wasseypur. Old grievances remain unavenged, and new feuds emerge... The film employs a documentary-like style to depict the intricate relationships between three gangster factions against the backdrop of history, spanning from 1940 to 2004, intertwined with India's independence, the partition of India and Pakistan, and the bloody sectarian violence within India. The actions of the Wasseypur gang reflect the traces of history.
