This is another surrealist film by Fernando, completed three years after “Death to the Tyrants” in 1973. Perhaps it is precisely because of these three years that the director's thoughts and artistic techniques have become more mature. In this film, the director abandons political ideas and moves towards broader themes of nature and modernity, as well as the conflict between civilization and primitiveness. The sexual conflict between mother and son is not merely like the son’s sexual awakening towards his mother in “Death to the Tyrants.” The plot still has a main storyline: a man kills his mother, drives to the desert, meets a dwarf, and develops feelings for him, bringing the dwarf back to the civilized society to share his wealth, while the police, representing the state apparatus, are in pursuit of him.
