The four beautiful sisters of the Kitazawa family, living in Kyoto, include the eldest sister Aya (played by Misako Kono) and her three younger sisters, Akane (played by Atsuko Asano), An (played by Yasuko Sawaguchi), and Ran (played by Yoko Tomita), who all come from an orphanage. After their parents pass away, Aya gives up on marrying her boyfriend Iwak城 (played by Muga Takewaki) and fully takes on the responsibility of caring for her sisters. An, a university student, is in the prime of her youth and becomes the object of pursuit for young men. Yuki Fugo (played by Ichirota Miyagawa) from the flower sword club and Ryo Sakuraba (played by Toshinori Oba) both launch romantic pursuits towards An. Although Fugo wins the heart of the beauty, his mother intervenes due to An's background. An and Ran then learn about their true origins, which greatly distresses them. Soon, An's biological mother, Ryouko Ayanokouji (played by Wakaba Irie), arrives in Kyoto, hoping that her daughter can live with her, putting the Kitazawa sisters on the brink of separation.
