Two couples, one before and one after, part ways in two different time periods. The young lovers are traveling in Greece; the man is returning to England to visit his mother, who is unexpectedly in a coma, while the woman is going back to Germany to continue her studies. The scene shifts to 30 years later, where another middle-aged couple, an actress and her anthropologist husband, face the erosion of their relationship and agree to divorce.
