During World War II, the shadow of war and death loomed over all of Europe, with no nation spared. A 14-year-old Jewish youth named Kövi (played by Marcell Nagy), living in Hungary, is intercepted by Nazi soldiers while traveling to visit his father and is subsequently sent to a concentration camp. In this inhumane place, death, disease, abuse, and fear constantly threaten their lives. Following the advice of his friend Kertész, Kövi vows to survive and walk out of this hell on earth at all costs... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by the 2002 Nobel Prize-winning author Imre Kertész and won the Golden Frog Award at the 2005 Camerimage Film Festival in Poland and the Best Cinematography Award at the 2005 Copenhagen International Film Festival.
