Nick (played by Will Ferrell) is just a small-time salesman. After working tirelessly for 16 years, he not only fails to get promoted but is also cruelly fired. The only compensation he receives is a little army knife. It seems that fate is determined to make things difficult for Nick. Returning home in his disheartened state, he finds a scene that drives him mad. His wife has lost trust in him and, after throwing out all of his belongings, changes the locks to their home, refusing to see him again. Nick, now homeless, owns nothing but a pile of junk. Unwilling to accept his situation, he decides to use his sales skills to hold a massive outdoor sale. However, this very sale leads Nick to find direction in his life and brings a beautiful woman named Samaria (played by Rebecca Hall) into his life.
