Daisy (played by Barbra Streisand) is a cheerful and lively girl loved by everyone. She seems perfect in every way except for one major flaw: her enormous smoking addiction. Daisy's fiancé, Turner, finds her a job at a food company, which is a relaxing and well-paying position, but the only requirement is that employees cannot smoke. Therefore, Daisy must quit smoking as quickly as possible. To help Daisy quit smoking, Turner consults psychologist Chabert (played by Yves Montand), hoping that Chabert can use hypnosis to help her overcome her addiction. Initially, Chabert refuses, but when he discovers that Daisy seems to possess some extraordinary abilities, he decides to use hypnosis to unravel the mystery behind it.
