Ruth (Melanie Lynskey) is a nurse working at a rehabilitation center, and she herself suffers from depression and is undergoing treatment with medication. After an extremely unlucky day, Ruth returns home exhausted, only to be shocked to find her home has been ransacked, with her valuable laptop missing. The immense pressure makes Ruth feel like she is close to a breakdown. The next day, Ruth runs into the despicable man Tony (Elijah Wood) who often lets his dog do its business in her yard, and then Ruth's phone picks up the signal from the laptop that is linked to it. Ruth reports it to the police, but they are unwilling to help her. In desperation, Ruth turns to Tony for help, who unexpectedly agrees to assist her and quickly takes action.
