Directed by John Carpenter, this sci-fi film does not emphasize special effects, but instead focuses on the theme of the outsider, creating a remarkably romantic and touching atmosphere, making it enjoyable as an art film featuring an alien as the protagonist. Jeff Bridges plays a naive alien whose spaceship is shot down and crashes in the wilderness of Wisconsin. Injured, he arrives at the home of recently widowed Karen Allen and borrows her husband's body to sustain his life. As he learns about the Earthlings' way of life, he develops feelings for the widow. An alien rescue team is set to arrive in Arizona in three days to take him back to outer space, and he needs the widow to drive him there. Two government officials on Earth also receive the news and decide to capture the alien at any cost, leading to an exciting tug-of-war.
