This film is based on the true experiences of Max Manus, a famous fighter in the Norwegian resistance movement. In the late 1930s, the shadow of war loomed over Europe, with Germany and the Soviet Union devouring the countries of Europe from the east and west. In 1940, Max Manus (played by Aksel Hennie) joined many Norwegian youth to volunteer and fight in Finland during the "Winter War" to prevent the Soviet Union from occupying Finland. Later, due to German invasion in Norway, Manus had to return to Oslo, where he organized underground publications to promote anti-Nazi ideas. This dangerous endeavor led to Manus being captured by the Nazis, but he managed to escape and eventually arrived in Scotland, where he underwent rigorous training by the British. In 1943, Manus parachuted into Norway and attacked German ships using homemade bombs, thus beginning his legendary life as a resistance hero while posing as a mentally ill patient... This film won seven major awards, including Best Film, Best Actor, Cinematography, and Screenplay at the 2008 Amanda Awards in Norway.
