Terry Randall (played by Katharine Hepburn) comes from a wealthy and noble family. However, the headstrong Randall does not want to rely on her family's connections to reach the Broadway stage. With dreams and ambitions, Randall moves into a club filled with dramatic flair. There, she meets her roommate Jean Maitland (played by Ginger Rogers), a talkative actress. Facing fierce competition, Randall gradually realizes that she differs from others; she acts out of passion, while the others do it for survival. Randall's father decides to secretly assist his daughter's career, but little does he know that his covert help ends up causing her more harm. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards at the 10th Oscars in 1938: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.
