In 1938, Madge Arwell saves a fallen astronaut angel while cycling home, and he rewards her by granting a wish. During the war in 1941, she escapes London with her two children, retreating to a country mansion amidst the loss of contact with her husband who is fighting abroad. There, she encounters a peculiar butler and finds a large blue police box in a room. At Christmas, his gift transports them all into a magical yet dangerous world. Madge will learn how to be braver than she imagined and the possibility of wishes coming true.
