Qu Xiaoqiao (played by Sammi Cheng) is a magazine reporter who insists on taking back her mattress every time she breaks up with her boyfriend. The magazine editor assigns her to follow the story of the police spokesperson Gao Zhiqiang (played by Louis Koo) who is impotent. In fact, Zhiqiang developed a trauma during a pursuit of a criminal, which led to his condition. Xiaoqiao tries multiple times to test the waters but makes no progress, yet she falls in love with Zhiqiang. After learning about his past, Xiaoqiao believes their love doesn’t necessarily need sex to sustain it. However, Xiaoqiao turns to her ex-boyfriend Raymond (played by Liu Qingyun) to satisfy her physical needs. Raymond encounters the 18-year-old Ata (played by Charlene Choi) in court and, thinking of her as just a little girl, feels he can't fulfill his needs through a young girlfriend. When the news of Gao Zhiqiang's impotence is revealed, Zhiqiang suspects that Xiaoqiao told her boss and has to break up with her. After they reconcile, Zhiqiang encounters the criminal who caused his trauma, and with the sound of a gunshot, the shadow is lifted.
