In the bustling street of Western Vegetable Street in Mong Kok, Hong Kong, shops line the streets and tourists come and go. Ha Gong (played by Eric Tsang) and Sek Kin (played by Jacky Cheung) own mobile phone shops facing each other across the street, both employing clever tricks to attract customers and refusing to yield. In fact, the two were friends many years ago, and their story of outsmarting their landlord has become a popular tale. However, they eventually fell out over their romantic interest, Little Tao Hung (played by Yuri Cheng). Now that Little Tao Hung is married to Ha Gong, she still cares for her former good friend Sek Kin deep down. The children of both families have been secretly dating and gradually developing feelings for each other. The landlord wants to triple the rent, leaving the shop owners distressed. Mysterious individuals have been throwing sulfuric acid from above, causing panic among the residents of the small street. In order to protect their livelihood and restore peace to Western Vegetable Street, the merchants decide to unite and defend their home… This film is a collaboration between Shaw Brothers and TVB and is known as the Hong Kong version of "The Founding of a Republic" due to the participation of over 100 stars from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
