The beautiful girl Aru (played by Yoshiko Ogawa) lost her mother at a young age, and her father, Hiraizumi Heizoemon (played by Ikuo Koizumi), remarried a woman named Akuni (played by Miki Hayashi). Akuni is having an affair with the butler while seeing Aru as a thorn in her side regarding the inheritance of the family assets. One day, while seeking shelter from the rain, Aru encounters the umbrella maker, Shin Saburo (played by Hajime Tanimoto), and they fall in love at first sight. Shortly after, Shin Saburo and Aru meet again, and their love ignites as they head to Mount Wu. Suddenly, Aru's father bursts in, causing Shin Saburo to awaken and realize it was all just a dream. On the night of the Obon festival, Aru sneaks into her lover’s place for a rendezvous. However, a monk (played by Mamoru Natsu) soon reveals a twist: Aru has been harmed by her stepmother and the butler, and the one meeting Shin Saburo at night is actually the ghost of Aru, holding on to her earthly love...
