The Lunar New Year film "Long Live Happiness," produced by Liang Zhiqiang, has recruited local newcomer director Chen Qiquan, who previously directed "S11," to helm the project. Co-directed by Zhang Jiarun, Chen Qiquan's ability to successfully reach a box office of 3 million during the Lunar New Year under Liang's "guidance" has drawn much attention. The script for "Long Live Happiness" took a year and a half to write in English, which was then translated into Chinese by the crew. Chen Qiquan's previous co-direction of "S11" experienced a rushed release and a disappointing box office of only 2,229 yuan. Liang Zhiqiang not only appreciated Chen's rich advertising experience but also saw his potential in "commercial" success, as S11 stands for S 11 = $$. Furthermore, the budget for "Long Live Happiness" is 2 million Malaysian Ringgit (about 840,000 Singapore Dollars), breaking Liang’s trend of films costing no less than 1 million Singapore Dollars in recent years, indicating an ambition to achieve great success with limited investment. "Long Live Happiness" is a romantic comedy exploring love across three generations, featuring a couple in their forties who have been married for many years, and two other pairs in their thirties and youth. Chen Mucheng (played by Cheng Xuhui), 52, is a conservative, traditional middle-aged Malaysian man. His wife, Jiali (played by Yang Yanyan), is busy with household chores, leading to a lack of communication between them and frequent arguments over trivial matters, much to Mucheng’s distress. A serendipitous event leads Mucheng to contemplate "straying"… only to discover that Xuilian is not the dream woman he imagined, but rather a "nightmare." Jeremy (played by Lin Derong), Mucheng's "younger brother," is 36, self-proclaimed romantic, and akin to a footless bird, wandering among various women daily. When he impersonates Mucheng to attend "Parents’ Day" for Benny, he meets the elegant teacher Huang Meishi (played by Li Xinyi) and begins to pursue her. Just as he seems close to winning her affection, trouble arises! Benny (played by Liang Minghao), 17, is a high school student who is at the onset of his feelings, full of curiosity and fantasies about love between men and women. Benny becomes a target for pranks by his classmates, as a video of him dancing with his crush, Jennifer (played by Aiwen), surfaces online, making him an unwitting star… The story features Chen Mucheng, Jeremy, and Mucheng's son, Benny, representing three different age groups of men, probing into their explorations of love to unearth thought-provoking insights, while also giving rise to a series of humorous situations. Audiences living in this conservative and repressive Eastern society will surely understand, experience, and resonate with the laughter and tears presented!
