Christmas is the most eagerly anticipated holiday of the year for Clark Griswold (played by Chevy Chase). This year, Clark decides to bring his wife Ellen’s (played by Beverly D'Angelo) parents and his own parents together at home for a joyful family gathering. However, Clark overlooks one crucial detail: the relationship between his in-laws and his parents is incredibly tense, and they almost start arguing as soon as they meet. In addition to the four older adults, Clark’s cousin also joins in the festive party with his family. Soon, Clark begins to doubt whether his choice was a mistake. The four older adults are constantly bickering, the cousin is no help, and only causes more trouble. To make matters worse, his boss has yet to deliver the promised holiday bonus.
