Buster (played by Buster Keaton) is an obscure street photographer who unexpectedly meets Sally (played by Marceline Day), a secretary in the MGM newsreel department. With Sally's recommendation, Buster arrives at MGM, hoping to apply for a position as a photographer there. However, Buster's career path is fraught with challenges from the very beginning. Although he faces repeated failures, the kind-hearted Sally always trusts and supports Buster, which deeply moves and encourages him. Stagg (played by Harold Goodwin) is Buster’s colleague who is passionately pursuing Sally and looks down on the poor and awkward Buster. One day, Buster receives a tip from Sally and heads to Chinatown to cover a major news story. However, after much hardship, he returns to the news department only to find that his camera does not have a recording tape installed, causing Sally to be implicated as well.
