Based on true historical events, it unveils the little-known truths of genocide, a heroic chapter about love and honor, struggle and survival. On the eve of World War II, as Stalin's communist ambitions expanded, the implementation of agricultural collectivization led to severe famine in Ukraine. A young painter named Yuri (played by Max Irons) struggles to survive in an environment of hunger, imprisonment, and torture, trying to save his childhood sweetheart, Nataka (played by Samantha Banks), from this "Holodomor." During this tragic period, Yuri escapes from Soviet prison and joins the resistance against the Bolsheviks, fighting desperately to see Nataka again and for the freedom of Ukraine.
