On New Year's Eve, the high-end hotel Avanti in Tokyo enters its most hectic and busy moments as the countdown party approaches. The assistant manager Hirayuki Shindo (played by Hiroshi Yakusho), his assistant Noriko Taki (played by Keiko Toda), cleaning lady Hana Takemoto (played by Takako Matsu), and hotel worker Kenji Oshino (played by Shingo Katori) are all working tirelessly, regardless of their positions, to prepare for the event. Meanwhile, guests including the scandal-plagued congressman Fujita (played by Koichi Sato), the zoologist Hotta (played by Takuzo Kadono) who unexpectedly encounters a prostitute, the stressed-out enka singer Tokugawa (played by Toshiyuki Nishida) attempting suicide, and the ventriloquist Sakata who has lost his duck partner and cannot perform, create a chaotic atmosphere at the hotel. The constant minor accidents further contribute to the noise at the Avanti hotel. Before the New Year arrives, the hotel experiences the two worst hours, and the countdown begins...
