Kevin Costner plays a straightforward naval officer in the film, who, along with the Secretary of Defense (Gene Hackman), falls in love with the same woman (Sean Young). However, this secret isn't revealed until the woman is found dead. The charming naval officer encounters the mistress of a Department of Defense official, and the two quickly become entangled.
