The story of "Red Faction: Origins" continues the game's background and character design: It has been 25 years since Alec Mason led the Martian colony to freedom, and it has been 12 years since his wife was killed and his daughter Lyra was kidnapped. Alec has been a broken hero since then. His only remaining son, Jake Mason, is now an officer in the Red Faction Militia. When he discovers that his sister, kidnapped 12 years ago, is still alive, his world is turned upside down. Even with new enemies flooding Mars, Jake decides to search for his sister, only to find that Lyra has now become a member of the opposing forces, a cold-blooded warrior who vows to destroy the Red Faction.
