In Paris, the middle-aged man Thomas is heartbroken after being abandoned by his girlfriend. He returns to Hungary for recuperation and discovers a collection of immature love poems he wrote in his youth. Memories rush back to him. Why did the once romantic sea of flowers turn into barren land? Why did past expressions of “I love you” lead to breakups? Why did the happy youth become a middle-aged man gaining weight? Thomas tries to find the reasons in his memories, only to realize that all the joys, sorrows, loves, and hates experienced in growing up are just precious lessons in life. Perhaps love may fade, but youth is merely a brilliant, lame love poem.
