Taipei at night, brightly lit. Little Kai (played by Yao Chun Yao) helps his girlfriend pack her bags, bidding her a fond farewell. She goes to Paris, and his yearning drives him to study French desperately, hoping for a reunion one day. During this time, he meets Susie (played by Kuo Tsai Chieh), a bookstore employee, and they gradually develop feelings for each other. Little Kai's father (played by Gao Jie) runs a snack shop, and Little Kai’s friend Gao Gao often visits, sharing stories of youthful love. Regular customers also include a figure from the underworld, Brother Leopard, who, facing a midlife crisis, prefers to discuss romance rather than business. However, his younger brother Ah Hong (played by Ke Yu Lun) is eager to prove himself and is preparing for a big score. Finally, he gets an opportunity when Brother Leopard’s partner leaves a batch of goods in a shrine. With the police (played by Zhang Xiao Quan) keeping watch, they are at a loss. To secure the goods, Brother Leopard promises to fund Little Kai’s trip to Paris, handing the task to him. But Ah Hong decides to go solo. Thus, a game of mantis stalking the cicada begins… This film won the Best Asian Film Award at the Berlin Film Festival.
