During the Nanboku-chō period in Japan, constant warfare leaves the people displaced. A mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law live on a weedy plain, making a living by hunting down straggling soldiers and stripping their armor for food. One night, a young soldier named Hachi (played by Sato Kei) returns from the battlefield and informs the mother-in-law (played by Otsuba Nobuko) that her son is dead, deciding to stay and live with them. Hachi continuously teases the daughter-in-law (played by Yoshimura Mikiko), and one night, the daughter-in-law throws caution to the wind and rushes to Hachi's place, where they become entangled... The mother-in-law fears losing her daughter-in-law. In desperation, she encounters a samurai (played by Uno Shigeharu) wearing a demon mask who claims to possess a beautiful face. The mother-in-law kills the samurai and dons the mask, hoping to scare her daughter-in-law away, but ultimately fails. However, what is even more terrifying is that the mask she wears is cursed...
