Soon, tragic news breaks: Leslie shoots a man named David, claiming he attempted to assault her and that her actions were purely self-defense. Robert believes Leslie’s account and hires lawyer Howard (James Stephenson) to defend her, but they are unprepared for the fact that David’s wife, Mrs. Hammond (Gale Sondergaard), has evidence of Leslie's affair with David.
