In the ninth year of Taisho, a young man (played by Matsuda Youji) wakes up in a dimly lit, enclosed room wearing a bathrobe. Next door, the mournful cries of a girl can be heard. He has lost his memory and cannot recall his name or origin. At this moment, a man claiming to be Kyushu Imperial University’s psychiatry professor, Wakabayashi Kyoutarou (played by Murota Hideo), enters the room. He narrates a tragic story that happened a long time ago in China, believing that the memories of ancient ancestors have somehow been passed down to the young man named Wu Yilong. The previous head of the psychiatry department, Masaki (played by Katsura Shijaku), had conducted in-depth research on this matter. Soon, the deceased Dr. Masaki appears before Wu Yilong, providing him with more clues, yet everything becomes increasingly mysterious… This film is adapted from the work of detective novelist Yumeno Kyusaku's same name.
