A Black man, Virgil Tibbs (played by Sidney Poitier), who is waiting for a train, is arrested by the police as a suspect. During the interrogation, Tibbs tells the local police that he is also a policeman and specializes in homicide cases. The reason for his investigation is simply because he is Black, and he desperately wants to leave, but Tibbs' superior insists that he stay and work with the local sheriff, Bill Gillespie (played by Rod Steiger), to solve the case. In this place, where racial discrimination is very severe, Tibbs faces numerous obstacles in his investigation, and Bill advises him to leave as soon as possible and not to get involved. However, Tibbs refuses to give up and insists on uncovering the truth... This film received 7 Oscar nominations in 1968 and ultimately won 5 awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
