Forty years ago, it made a striking impression with its sharp sound effects, the shock value still remarkable today. The story begins in reverse with a cricket match at a lunatic asylum, featuring an avant-garde musician (Reso He) and his wife living in a tranquil village when an unexpected guest arrives one day. A mysterious man (Alpen) claims to have killed his wife and children in the Australian outback and learned indigenous witchcraft, able to summon death with a scream. On the coastal dunes, he raises his arms and shouts, causing the musician to collapse, and the shepherd and his flock to perish; the allure also captivates the wife, taking the place of her husband. The paralyzed child, the reclining naked woman, and the bishop's bust, with three distorted portraits by Bacon displaying the grotesque pathology of the main characters; the confrontation between civilization and primitivism, reason and absurdity, reality and illusion expands in a loop under Dolby sound, doubling the uncanny shock that strikes the soul.
