Due to his parents' divorce, 10-year-old Shuji (played by Takashi Kamiki) has to move to the countryside with his mother to live with his grandfather. One day, while visiting a shrine, Shuji is chosen as the "Kirin Delivering a Child." There is a local legend that states that a child chosen as the Kirin Delivering a Child can obtain the legendary flying sword guarded by the Great Tengu at the top of Mount Tengu. Legend has it that the flying sword is used to maintain peace, and his friends tease him about being afraid to ascend Mount Tengu to retrieve the sword of the Kirin Delivering a Child. After starting the ascent, he gets scared and returns. On the other hand, the millennium demon Kato Yasunori (played by Etsushi Toyokawa) is resurrected. He utilizes the resentment from discarded items, merging them with captured yokai to form an evil monster army, leading them in an attempt to destroy humanity. With the efforts of yokai like the mountain god, kappa, and Kawahime, Shuji passes the trial. To protect the world, Shuji decides to join forces with the yokai and confront the evil enemy in a decisive battle; thus, the Yokai Daisensou officially begins!
