Brandon (John Dall) and Philip (Farley Granger) are both brilliant students at Harvard. One day, the two homosexuals conspire to murder their classmate David and hide his body in a large trunk. Perhaps out of a desire to show off, they make a shocking move. They use the trunk containing David's body as a dinner table, inviting David's parents, fiancée, classmates, and Professor Rupert (James Stewart) to a banquet. They lie, claiming that David is out, and host the guests on top of David's "coffin." The timid Philip becomes increasingly restless from the start of the banquet, while Brandon remains calm and chatters away among the guests. However, the astute Professor Rupert gradually senses that something is amiss from Brandon's conversation...
