In the early 21st century, a plague claimed 99% of human life. The survivors relied on the invention of scientist Goodchard to build the isolated city of Burylag to sustain civilization. Four hundred years later, some citizens, discontent with the dictatorship of the Goodchard regime and the ongoing disappearances, formed an armed force called the Monicans to fight back. The warrior Ian (played by Charlize Theron) is a top figure in the Monicans. During a mission to destroy Goodchard’s surveillance system, Ian witnesses the body of her sister killed by the enemy. In her rage, she receives orders to assassinate Goodchard's leader, Trevor. However, when she meets Trevor face to face, the name “Catherine” calls forth chaotic memories that immobilize her. After escaping, Ian begins investigating the truth of the city and discovers that the long-standing disappearances are linked to a cloning program, which forms the basis of Burylag’s operation—replicating humans. Ian's discoveries soon cause a chain reaction, pulling various forces into the conflict…
