Director Paolo Virzì, known for "The Leisure Seeker," will collaborate again with production company Bac Films to create a black comedy titled "Magical Nights." Blending elements of film noir and satirical comedy, it explores the behind-the-scenes stories of Italy's golden age of cinema. Set in 1990s Rome, the story follows three promising screenwriters who become the prime suspects in the murder of a famous producer, found dead in the Tiber River on the night of the World Cup final. As they are questioned by the police, they begin to reminisce about the glory and decline of Italian cinema. Newcomers Mauro Lamantia, Giovanni Toscano, and Irene Vetere play the three screenwriters, with the script penned by Francesca Archibugi ("Crazy About Love," "The Leisure Seeker," "Luck") and Francesco Piccolo ("The Pope's Birthday," "Days and Clouds," "Human Capital"). The film is currently shooting in Rome and is expected to be released in the second quarter of next year.
