Kate (played by Kate Beckinsale) is a successful female lawyer, climbing the career ladder, yet she suffers a complete failure in her family and marriage. After the divorce, her husband gains custody of their daughter, and they live in Seattle. Unable to bear the pain of separation, Kate decides to do whatever it takes to regain custody of her daughter. Kate takes on a very challenging case involving a woman named Lacey (played by Anna Anissimova), who is accused of murder. However, Lacey refuses to admit to her crime and recounts her harrowing experience of being raped in prison. Winning this case is crucial for Kate, and after numerous twists and hardships, she finally secures an acquittal for Lacey. However, Kate soon discovers that Lacey is actually a despicable woman full of lies, leaving Kate torn between her future and the truth.
