The circus lost its audience due to dull and uninteresting performances, facing the danger of bankruptcy and closure, and no one knows if a "savior" will drop from the sky. Tramp Charlie (played by Charles Chaplin) gets caught in a thief's trap during a fair, attracting the attention of the police. He dashes into the circus that is performing as if he were a headless fly. On stage, Charlie’s various physical antics to evade the police are mistaken by the audience as part of the circus act, and they enthusiastically applaud his "performance." The circus owner wants Charlie to stay and help revive the circus. Although Charlie doesn’t want to make a living from the circus, he reluctantly accepts the owner's proposal out of desperation. Soon, Charlie's comedic talent makes him the star performer of the circus. He falls in love with the gentle and delicate daughter of the circus owner and tries everything to please her; however, the owner’s daughter is truly in love with the tightrope performer. To make way for the one he loves, a heartbroken Charlie silently leaves behind the audience that adored him. Charlie Chaplin received an honorary award at the 1st Academy Awards for this film.
