Everyone says that Claude (played by Dudley Moore) is a lucky man, as his wife Daniela (played by Nastassja Kinski) is as beautiful as a fairy, charming and alluring. However, after the initial happiness and joy fade away, Claude is plagued by a question he cannot comprehend: what does Daniela actually see in him? Can he truly satisfy his beloved wife? This question grows larger like a rolling snowball, causing Claude to fall into despair. His feelings of inferiority and self-doubt gradually evolve into suspicion and mistrust. Finally, Claude decides to hire a private detective to investigate his wife's every move. Soon, the detective informs Claude that Daniela has been getting close to a violinist named Maximilian (played by Armand Assante), and filled with rage, Claude contemplates murder.
