Describes a traveling exhibition arriving in a small town, where the local postman, dressed in a crumpled uniform and oversized shoes, rides his antique bike to join the bustling crowd for a visit. After accidentally watching a film at the exhibition about how the U.S. Postal Service conducts efficient business training, he feels greatly inspired and whimsically begins to modernize his postal services. Of course, his Don Quixote-like innocence leads to many humorous mishaps during the practical process. After experiencing a series of adventures, he returns to the town to continue his dull and monotonous life and work. This is the directorial debut of French comedy master Jacques Tati, which, like many of his later works, uses almost no dialogue, relying instead on various natural sounds and the excellent physical movements and performances of the actors. The film features characters who clash with the surrounding world, aimed at criticizing the disharmony brought to humanity by the highly developed materialistic modern society and expressing skepticism, if not denial, about whether the progress of civilization and institutionalized life can truly bring convenience to people. Director Tati is known as the French Chaplin, hence the continuous humor in the film.
