Single mother Dandelion (played by Nobuko Miyamoto) runs a ramen shop called "Rairaiken" alone after her husband passes away, but her cooking skills are inadequate, resulting in few customers and a struggling business. On a rainy night, long-distance truck driver Heilang (played by Tsutomu Yamazaki) and Gun (played by Ken Watanabe) stop by Rairaiken, and Heilang frankly points out the issues with the ramen. Eager to learn, Dandelion asks Heilang to take her as an apprentice to improve her cooking skills. Out of sympathy for the mother-son duo's plight, Heilang puts Dandelion through rigorous training and takes her to visit nearby ramen shops to learn from the experiences of her peers.
