Released in 1988, "Coming to America" is a romantic comedy starring Eddie Murphy during his prime, directed by John Landis, and featuring James Earl Jones, Arsenio Hall, and Vanessa Bell Calloway. Eddie Murphy plays Akeem, the wealthy prince of the fictional African country Zamunda, who travels to America to find his own bride instead of accepting an arranged marriage. While working in the U.S., he falls in love with a middle-class girl named Lisa. To pursue her, he hides his true identity, but when the news leaks out, the king arrives in New York with a large entourage, leading to a series of comedic events. After 32 years, the African prince Akeem returns as the king, but it is revealed that he left behind an illegitimate son in America, prompting a new journey to find him… "Coming to America 2" tells the story of Eddie Murphy's African prince who is now crowned king. James Earl Jones, playing the old king, informs him about the son he left in the U.S. during the events of the first movie, leading the royal duo from Zamunda back to America for a new adventure. The sequel is directed by Craig Brewer ("Dolemite Is My Name"), with a screenplay by Kenya Barris ("Girls Trip") and others. Arsenio Hall and James Earl Jones return, joined by new cast members including Wesley Snipes, KiKi Layne, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, and Jermaine Fowler. Reports indicate that Paramount sold "Coming to America 2" to Amazon for a hefty licensing fee of $125 million. Initially scheduled for a theatrical release in North America on December 18 this year, it is now set to premiere on Amazon on March 5, 2021.
