27-year-old office worker Daikichi Kawachi (played by Kenichi Matsuyama) rushes back to his hometown to attend his grandfather's funeral, where he unexpectedly meets his grandfather's illegitimate daughter – the beautiful yet pitiful Rin Koga (played by Mana Ashida). Naturally, Rin cannot gain the Koga family's acceptance, but she attracts Daikichi's attention and sympathy. Ultimately, Daikichi decides to take this 6-year-old aunt, who is still wetting the bed, back to Tokyo to raise her alone. Rin's arrival completely changes Daikichi's bachelor life; he works hard at the company all day and has to take care of Rin's daily needs when he returns home. As Rin reaches the age to enter kindergarten, running becomes the central theme of Daikichi's life. Throughout this process, Rin, who had once tightly shut her heart, gradually opens up to Daikichi.
