Jenny (Meryl Streep), the owner of a bakery in Santa Barbara, California, sees her 20-year marriage to ex-husband Jake (Alec Baldwin) fall apart due to his infidelity. Ten years later, their three children are all grown up, and Jenny’s life finally seems to be on track. During a home renovation, she meets architect Adam (Steve Martin), and they develop feelings for each other. However, at her youngest son Luke's (Hunter Parrish) graduation ceremony, Jenny suddenly discovers that Jake has rekindled his feelings for her. Conflicted, Jenny finds herself succumbing to temptation and begins an affair with the married Jake. Faced with this tangled and complicated love quadrangle, how will Jenny choose?
